Typography Papers 6 Typography Papers is an occasional book-length publication from the Department of Typography at the University of Reading (England) with a broad international scope, publishing extended articles relating typography to adjacent disciplines. Issue 6 is devoted to the reconstruction and reinvention of the classical letter in Italy in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. It includes a previously unpublished article by the late Nicolete Gray: the first English translation of the late Giovanni Mardersteig's brilliant and seminal essay of 1959 ("L. B. Alberti e la rinascita del carattere lapidario romano nel quattrocento"); James Mosley on Giovan Farncesco Cresci's formative influence on the form of Western handwriting and typefaces: an analysis of the grand inscriptional capitals which appeared on new buildings in Rome between 1585 and 1590: and Victor Gaultney's innovative survey of how the character repertoire of the Latin alphabet has been extended to cater to languages without scripts.
Letter case - In orthography and typography, letter case (or just case) is the distinction between majuscule (capital or upper-case) and minuscule (lower-case) letters. Most Occidental languages (certainly those based on the Latin, Cyrillic, Greek and Armenian alphabets) use multiple letter cases in their written form as an aid to clarity. Kra (letter) - Kra (ĸ) is a character once used when writing the Kalaallisut language spoken in Greenland (although a spelling reform has replaced it with ). It is visually similar to a Latin small capital letter K and the Cyrillic letter к. Short I - Short I (Й, й) is a letter in the Cyrillic alphabet. It is made of the Cyrillic letter И (which resembles reversed Latin capital N), with a breve. I (Cyrillic) - I or Y (И, и) is a letter in the Cyrillic alphabet, pronounced in Russian, or in Ukrainian. It looks like a backwards version of the Latin alphabet's capital N, and is derived from the Greek letter eta (Η, η, pronounced in Ancient Greek but in Modern Greek).
